Consistently - like never or constantly? Yes, of course, in my book! That was what I got in my relationship - No love, No respect. But, sometimes, it is understandable to just be tired from the stresses of trying to live in todays's society that could make someone less attentive that way. Put your arm around them and COMMUNICATE!
Showing love and respect to your loved ones - spouse and children - should come to you naturally and effortlessly. It is there all the time. You don't have to think about it and work at it.
The members of your close family have the right to expect love and respect from you. If you deny them these - then, yes, you are being abusive. You may wish to seek professional help to remedy the situation.
