The bolt is just a standard right hand thread. Just took one out of an '01 Xterra.
Above the CV joint towards the back of the engine on the left hand side (as you look at the car).
The axle nut is right hand thread. Turn it counterclockwise to loosen.

Hand sewing is done by using a needle with thread, and joining two fabrics with the thread. Generally, for hand sewing, you would choose a thread size based on what you're sewing. The higher the wt number, the lighter (or finer) the thread is.
