No. You have separate problems.
This is the locking mechanism that prevents you from shifting from park without depressing the brake pedal or pressing the release button to the right of the gear shifter. It is true that a shifter lock mechanism prevents shifting until the break is depressed.
Buy a new car
Have a Shop Inspect itObviously you have a defect in the shifter safety release mechanism. Have a shop check it out, it is not a large fix, though the parts price may be expensive if a new release solenoid is required. Cheers! For the subaru, try this. Remove the plastic center console surrounding the shifter. You'll have to kinda disassemble a fair bit around that shifter but you should be able to get it out (I think I had to start back at the center cubby arm rest.) Anyway, with the plastic cover removed, you should see a silenoid and a pivoting metal mechanism to the right of the shifter. This is the physical piece that locks out the shifter. You can see it work (or not work) by simply turning the key and parking brake. Anyway, OFTEN, this gets gummed up over the years by coffee, coke, etc... Simply cleaning the pivoting mechanism and adding a little lubricant cleared our problem up. I thought about replacing the silenoid but once I'd done it, it was so easy that I figured I could do it again if needed. Hope that helps for future Subaru owners.
Usually the same fuse as the stop lights
I believe the owner's manual specifies that there is a screw on the side of the shifter that can be turned (via screwdriver) to override the shift lock mechanism.
Shifter - 2014 was released on: USA: 2014
Does it have an automatic transmission? If yes look on the lower part of the colunm as you move the shifter you will notice it moving , When you move the shifter from drive towards park note the direction it moves then reach done there and with your hand continue to rotate the collar as you place the shifter in park this will release the locking mechanism so the key will come out.
Two items that might prevent the shifter from moving: # Ignition key lock. If this mechanical part isn't releasing the mechanism to the transmission lever, the shifter will not move. # Brake pedal switch. On some cars, one must depress the brake pedal in order to release the shifter out of Park. Could be a defective switch for that, too.
If the shifter will not come out of park, check the brake light fuse. The shifter release solenoid uses the brake light switch to unlock the shifter.
all i know is that most functions of the shifter are actuated by the brake pedal and until the brake is applied the shifter will not move
one reason could be the clutch, or pressure plate dont buy any cluthes or cluth kits from autozone!!!!!! could be a blown fuse. fuse has to be working to get out of park. Depends what you mean by "stick". There are two cables involving the shift mechanism. 1. Transmission Shifter cable 2. Park Ignition Key release cable (not sure what it is called) part of shifter thumb release assembly Can you depress the stick shifter release button and have any movement of the shifter? Have you noticed any difficulty in moving shifter over the last several months? (Word of caution here!!! the shifter mounting assembly is made of thin cast white metal. if you have a seized cable and try to pull shifter very hard. It will break ! Requiring a trip the the local wrecker to find this part! 8) Most likely you have a damaged shifter cable that has finally seized. The rubber coating if cut or slashed will allow water inside cable. Rust begins soon after.
