Socialism (safety first & society being more important than the individual) IS becoming more acceptable than the individual freedom of the individual person.

But this should not be a surprise; one of the authors of the Declaration of Independence (probably Jefferson) wrote, "...when America becomes as civilized as Europe, then it will also inherit it's problems...loss of freedom...etc."

No. If it was you wouldn't be able to ask this question. A communist country does not hold elections nor does it allow it's people to protest or get involved in making laws. It does not give due process to people when arrested and everyone is guilty when they are arrested. There is no freedom of expression and the media is controlled by the state. Business is also controlled by the government. None of this happens in the US. If it did there would be no "Tea Party" or "Occupy Wallstreet" protests, newspapers would cite only government Propaganda, and Fox network wouldn't be on TV. If you want to open a business you don't need permission from the government and if you want to move to another state or country you can.
