the atomic number does not equal the number of atoms. the number of atoms is stated in the equation like: H2+O=H2O
2 hydrogen atoms 1 oxygen atom the number says all.
The atomic number tells the number of protons.

the atomic number is the number of protons

the Atomic Mass is the grams per mol in that element

the charge of an atom's nucleus... that's the atomic mass, because the nucleus is made up of PROTONS and NEUTRONS, so subtract the atomic number from the atomic mass to get the neutrons...

When balancing a nuclear equation what two quantities are conserved when balancing a nuclear equation?

hi, the law of conservation of matter basically says that matter can't be destroyed or created. in nuclear equations, this is why the mass number and atomic number of the parent isotope always equal the mass number and atomic number of the products. hope this helps

Why was the neutron the last subatomic particle to be discovered?

no electric charge. the nuclear theory at the time explained the atomic masses by assuming the nucleus contained a number of protons equal to the atomic mass number and enough electrons to cancel the charge beyond that of the atomic number of the element.

By knowing the atomic number how can we determine the charge of the nucleus?

All atomic nuclei are electrically positive. The number of protons is equal to the atomic number.

What doe the atomic number?

The central portion of atom carrying positive charge is called nucleus.its charges increase regularly as we go down the group like {H+1) (He+2)(Li+3) so this positive charge is called atomic number.an atom is neutral and its nuclear charge is called atomic number which must be equal to number of proton and number of electrons. ITs showing symbol is (Z)

What number is always equal to what so that an atom has no electrical charge in its normal state?

Electrons are equal to atomic number to have no net charge on an atom

What atomic number always equal to the total number of?

Electrons or Protons. As they are effectively equal in no in a neutral atom.

What does calciums atomic number mean?

In the atomic structure of an element a zero charge is exhibited by?

The zero charge in an atomic structure of an element is exhibited by the equal number of protons and electrons.

How can i figure out the number of electrons in an atom?

If the charge on the atom is zero, then the number of electrons is equal to the atomic number. e.g. 126C : atomic number = 6. This means there are 6 protons in the nucleus of the atom. There is no charge on the atom, so number of electrons must equal number of protons to cancel charge (6 electrons).

How does the atomic number tell you the number of electrons?

The atomic number is the number of protons in the nucleus of the atom which is equal to the number of electrons in an unreacted (free) atom. There is no deducing, they just are the same.

What is the atomic number always equal to?

The number of protons in the nucleus of each atom that has the atomic number.

Is there any relationship between atomic mass and number of proteins and electrons?

the atomic number is equal to the number of electrons(-) and protons(+): that is why elements have no charge, as a neutron is neural
