Is the black plastic cover over the battery of a 2003 BMW 325i attached to something else other than the two black screws in front?

No, just lift it up keeping the plastic cover horizontally Added by long time do-it-yourselfer: It's not that easy on a 2004 325i. The front of the cover is only held by the 2 plastic clips (rotate 45 degrees and pull up, they will come out) but the back is anchored between the edge of the gray trunk lining and the top of the bracket the battery sits in. Because it's sandwiched between them (the lining edge holds the cover down and the top of the bracket sticking up holds the cover from below) it's effectively locked in place. With the cover pulled up in front as far as it will go (about 45 degree angle) Use a large flat blade screwdriver to gently pry the lining over the rear edge of the cover. The edge has a high lip and it takes quite a bit to get the lining edge over it. Stick the blade between the lining and the cover edge and pry down to catch the bottom edge of the lining and move it up so that the high back edge of the cover is now in front of the gray lining. Works better to start on one side and work your way across. Once the lining is all the way over the back edge of the cover lip then you can pull up and the cover will come off. Careful it doesn't pop loose and hit you in the face like it did me. Proceed with removing the battery as is described in many other places on the internet.
