Is the notion that a man is not to supposed to hit a women lead to more domestic violence because he feels that he is being deprived of it?

Deprived of it? Like food, water and hitting a woman are basic male needs, you mean? No, this is not correct. You cannot deprive someone of their "right" to hit another person because there is no human right or human need that necessitates harm to another person. It is not a natural part of a relationship. If you want to hit your wife, you will do so whether you are "supposed" to or not. And nothing, not even jail, will deprive a true batterer of his goal to use fear as a means of control. This is the motivation for domestic violence, not rebellion against societal standards, but a need to dominate another person. The need to dominate comes from a deep seated feeling of insecurity and worthlessness that CANNOT be healed by a woman's love but first must start with the man loving himself which can NOT happen until he faces the truth about himself. Recovery from being the perpetrator of domestic violence is like recovery from Alcoholism, you will always have the potential for relapse but you can get better. The first step is admitting responsibility for your choices and no longer blaming the woman (the victim) or alcohol or whatever else. That was the meaning of those old bumper stickers "there's no excuse for violence against women."
