The piston , the piston rings , the wrist-pin , or a bearing failure not receiving enough lubrication caused a piston to exit the block . Metal on metal = a thrown rod which is connected to the piston and the connecting rod is connected to both the piston through a wrist-pin and connecting rod connected to the crankshaft . If you are able to, mark the threads where the tie rod screws into the steering assembly. Unbolt the tie rod from the arm connected to the tire. unscrew the tie rod from the steering assembly. Measuring from the bolt, mark on the new tie rod the same location on the threads as the old tie rod. Put everything back together like you took it apart. if you were not able to measure the original tie rod than you have to measure some part of the front two tires (two treads front and back of the tire ) to make sure they are close to alignment. this dose not have to be exact because the car is going to need an alignment at a shop afterwards.
