Is the war in Iraq a good thing or bad?

* With every war there is Propaganda. Only the White House knows what is really going on, and more often than not, the people of the U.S. (or any other country at war) seldom get the truth. Thus, it's difficult to say from what has been going on so far if this war is helping the U.S. In past history war made money for a country so the question is ... why is the U.S. almost into another depression era! There are other reasons to continue on with the war, and while it was thought it was good for the economy, it's certainly not good for the young men and women doing the fighting. Strictly my own opinion - it's another Vietnam! * I guess you want terrorists bombing the U.S. and killing innocents! * Each individual should research the war in Iraq and the reasons behind the U.S. fighting in Iraq. Now with the United State's new President Obama, this should prove very interesting. Always seek the truth by becoming more knowledgeable for the secrecy of government and the media will tell the people what they want to hear.

War is never good. It can be argued that Saddam was an evil man, and his people needed to be saved from him. But what gives one country the right to overthrow the leader of another? It was also argued at the time America was considering invading that Iraq was supplying terrorists with WMDs, but it seems that was not true. It was most likely a bad decision to invade Iraq, but it is important to move forward in a way that Iraq ends up a better place than it was when the US invaded.

I think the war in Iraq is a good thing because I know from experience that all of the at least most of the men and women over in Iraq are there to serve their country, so the war does not come to the states were the United Sates could be in huge trouble and danger! I agree with the first answer about how war is never good. It kills people spirits and relationships. So I think the war should end NOW, NOW, NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As much as I like History, Military History in particular, and I do because I reply to many Qs on the subject, the idea of 'war' and 'good thing' being in the same sentence is not something I can accept. That doesn't mean Saddam Hussein was a good man. That doesn't make Hitler OK. That doesn't mean that I am a pacifist. What it does mean is that the winners write the history books and that God is on the side of the big battalions. I suggest the reading of the lyrics of the Dylan song 'With God on our Side' might exemplify the point I am making.......
