From 1984 to 1987, U.S. Ford made a diesel engine available in the Escort as an answer to the energy price shocks of the 1970s and 1980s. A 2.0L overhead cam engine designed by Mazda of Japan was used in conjunction with a standard 5-speed manual transaxle (no automatic was offered). This engine is noted for its durability and great gas mileage (45 to 50 MPG). The same engine (and transmission) was offered in Ford Tempo and Mercury Topaz cars, in the US, during this period. According to the Wikipedia article on Mazda Diesel Engines, the 2.0 L (1998 cc) diesel engine was designated "RF."
The ROTARY engine is the best engine that Mazda made. It is still in use in the RX 8s
My 2001 was made by Mazda, in Canada.

The Bantam 1300 was made by Ford. Over the years they used three engines, one from the escort, then one from the Mazda 323, then one from the Fiesta. Please can you tell me which engine you have, or what year the car was made might help. Thank you.
2.0 liter DOHC - Zetec engine
In a 1998 Ford Escort : Yes , the SOHC engine IS an interference engine No , the DOHC engine IS NOT an interference engine ( according to Gates - they make timing belts etc. ) I just broke a timing belt on my 98 Escort SOHC. (Aug 29, 2010) I have gotten mixed answers on the internet as to whether or not it is an interference engine. Even the Gates website says two different things. Finally, I called Ford Service, three different dealerships. All three said very definitively that it is *not* an interference engine...that I should be able to stick a new timing belt on it and be good to go. One dealership said that Ford hasn't made an interference engine for *any* model in twenty years.."we make them better than that" he said.
It would depend on which Mazda. Probes were made by Mazda, and used the same engines as the 626, MX-6, and some Millenias.
a 2.0l escort was never made in 98 , last 2.0 was in 95 and was a, rs / cosworth / rs 4x4
It probably needs a tune up. My 1998 Mazda 626 was idling very rough, so I did a tune-up by replacing the spark plugs and wires. This made the engine run better, but the rought idling continued. I took it to my mechanic, and he found a vacuum leak somewhere, and $270 later, it idles smooth as glass
Yes, a Mazda B2000 is most definitely a 4-cylinder with a 2.0L engine. However, technically Mazda didn't produce the B2000 as a 1988 model. It was made in 1986-1987. Then in 1989 Mazda made the B2200 Pickup, which is a 2.2L 4 cylinder.
