No. The Contour did not have chipped keys.
No. The chipped ignition key did not start until the 1998 model year and was only on the 6 cylinder Contour and Mystique. (I've got a '97 6 cylinder Contour that seems to have a chip in the key.)
No
yes
To disarm the alarm on the 1998 Ford Contour, simply turn on the ignition using the vehicle's key. You can also disarm the alarm using the key fob.
how do I remove the key switch from a 1998 ford contour You have to remove the plastic trim around the steering column (behind the steering wheel). Put the key in the ignition cylinder and turn one click. There is a small hole on the side of the ignition cylinder, stick a small screwdriver into this hole and press hard. Pull out the ignition cylinder with the key.
If it doesn't have the computer chip in it, it is about $3 to get one cut. One with the chip is about $17.
yes but if the key has a chip in it then you will have to go to a dealership for tehm to program you a new one.
The keys on the 1998 Ford Contour are NOT chipped
Unless you have the frequencies of the chip inside the key or very tech savvy knowledge of how to trick the computer that runs the ignition into thinking it has the correct key chip inserted, you don't. Extra chip keys are about $150.00 a piece... IF you have the original key. I don't know what the price is to re-key a Windstar ignition switch that requires a chip to start, but it isn't going to be in the neighborhood of 'cheap'.
On a Chrysler vehicle with sentry key (chip key), you just have to put the key in the ignition and turn it on.On a Chrysler vehicle with sentry key (chip key), you just have to put the key in the ignition and turn it on.
Yes it does. Look on the key ring loop, you should see a small opening, like a flap. That's where it is...
Sounds like it has to do with the micro-chip in the key. Starts for about 3 seconds and dies. In 1999 Ford installed a micro-chip in the ignition key for Anti-theft purposes. If the chip isn't there, or is malfunctioning, the vehicle starts briefly and dies.
