No, there is not. There never will be. If your friends tell you otherwise, don't believe them.
Hypothetically speaking: It is possible to create a virus in a labratory that would make a human exibit "Zombie" symptoms. The rabies virus for example, will turn the infected into a crazy, violent, irrational lunatic in the last stages before death.
If a mutated Rabies virus were combined with a virus like the flu virus, or perhaps some other airborne virus, you would get an airborn virus that can also be spread through a scratch or bite. With that, you would get a group of people who went mad if they were infected. That happening on a large scale sounds a bit like a zombie Holocaust to me.
The life span of those 'Zombies' would be very short. Perhaps two weeks assuming they are eating. Even dead flesh or excrimant would sustain someone for a few days.
There is no way that the dead would come back to life.
Any Virologist will admit that this is a possible scenario. It is possible to create a zombie virus. Whether or not it has been done? Who knows. It would be a monumental task to create it though. It is not something that could probably happen in nature. Not without some outside influence that causes mutation during or after recombination.
It is 100% possible. There are Bio-weapon labs all over the world doing some scary stuff. If just average Joe's think about this stuff, why wouldn't someone with the means and motive to do it think it up?
