Only the filler plug. You have to remove the cover to drain the oil.
only if its the Dana 40 or 60
Automatic trans drain plug is on left side of pan(for atf). differential oil drain plug is directly below differential. Manual transmission has only one plug(below differential in center of trans)
Why would you need to? The rear differential will be the same, only the transfer case will be different. :)
There is no drain plug so the only thing to do is lower it enough to remove it from the filler neck.
Thereis a tag on the filler plug for the differential. On my 2001 300M the tag ready 80 to90 wt hypoid gear oil only.
The only way to drain the tank is to remove the filler hose from the side of the tank and siphon from there.
Unless the japs have come up with something new, there is no dip stick on a manual transmission...only an automatic. There is a filler bolt on the side of the trans. and a drain bolt on the bottom. remove the filler bolt and stick your finger inside to check the oil. if changing drain and fill until the oil is overflowing out of the filler bolt
there is only a fill plug on this differential. The only 2 ways of removing the fluid is by removing the 10 bolts that hold on the diff. cover, or a hand pump that can suction the fluid out through the fill plug hole.
The only place to fill the tranny fluid is through the tranny dipstick drain plug underneath
Park car on level surface. 1) Remove spare tire 2) Remove FILLER (top) bolt on differential 3) Place collection pan in appropriate location 4) Remove DRAIN (bottom) bolt on differential 5) Allow to drain until fluid drips / trickles out 6) Wipe crud off of drain bolt 7) Remove old and replace with new washers for drain and filler bolts (they are different sizes) 8) Install drain bolt. Torque to 33ft-lb. 9) Pump HONDA VTM-4 Fluid (do not substitute) into filler hole. It takes ~3 quarts. Stop pumping when fluid starts trickling out. 10) Install filler bolt. Slightly tighten. 11) Drive car backward and forwards 3-4 times each direction. 12) Remove filler bolt. Pump additional VTM-4 fluid until it begins to trickle out. 13) Install filler bolt. Torque to 35 ft-lb. 14) Wipe off any spilled fluid. 15) Check pressure in spare tire. Inflate if necessary. 16)Install spare tire. Tighten until spring just starts to compress (go any further and you risk snapping the spare tire cable). 17) Properly dispose of used VTM-4 fluid. Celebrate that you just saved yourself $60 in labor. In my area, the rate is $90 for the job and it takes $30 in parts / fluid. Torque specs are for 2005 model. Check your manual or call the service department. My manual only listed the filler bolt torque spec.
When the fluid falls below the bottom of the filler plug hole it is time to add fluid. Add fluid until the level reaches the bottom of the filler plug hole. In other words, add fluid(while parked on a level surface)until it begins to run out. I have a 99 Tahoe and the manual doesn't list any quantity/capacity for the differential, only how to check the level and refill if needed. Mike
(4x4?) If you have a locking differential you can try adding limited slip oil specific to jeep/ Dana rearends, if you have "one wheel peel" it will not help
