No there is not a shim between the starter and the bolt holder unless someone has put the wrong starter on and had to rig it up to make it engage properly.
IT'S ON THE RIGHT SIDE INER FENDER, NEXT TO THE BATTERY.
Yes I just replaced the solenoid for my Ranger and it is located on the passenger side right side panel under the hood right in eyes veiw. Hope this helps. Val
It should be bolted to an inner fender or maybe the frame surrounding the radiator , close to the battery in the engine compartment
what does a fuel pump look like in a 1989 ford ranger 4 cyl.
There is no 2.8 Liter in a 1989 Ford Ranger. The Ranger V6is a 2.9 Liter and the distributor rotates clockwise.
The starter solenoid is located on the top of the starter.

Yes, the U.S. Army Ranger School did have a graduating class in 1989. Army Ranger School holds multiple classes throughout the year, and 1989 would have had various graduating classes.
Replacing a starter on a 1989 Toyota Corolla is not very difficult to do. The wires will need to be disconnected from the old starter and labeled or taped. The starter is held in place by two bolts, unscrew the bolts and remove the old starter. Then replace with the new starter.
Blown fuse, bad starter, bad wires to the starter, no power.
