Yes there is a filter. The dealer charges $137.00 to change the oil & filter but this doesn't get the dirty oil in the torque converter. When the pan gasket is removed, there is usually a leakage problem later on.

The dealer also offers for $185.00 a fluid change without removing the pan which back flushes the filter excellently and flushes the whole system including torque converter. If you have high miles, do the more expensive one. Newer Sorentos take a different fluid and the flush type oil change is $230.00

Mine is in the shop for a new drive shaft and this very transmission oil change as I write this. I don't have a garage and think it's expensive but then, price the same work on any other car. It's not completely out of line. I see a lot of Kia bashing on line but you get more for your money in a Kia and at 99400 miles, my drive shaft is under warranty and free. Not many other cars with this good of warranty. I am the 2nd owner and I love the car! These prices are for the Chicago area.
