The Afghan Hound is considered an aristocratic sighthound. Tall and slender with a long, narrow, refined head, silky topknot and powerful jaws. The back part of the head and skull is quite prominent. The muzzle is slightly convex. The nose is black. The Afgan has little or no stop, which is the transition area from backskull to muzzle. The teeth should meet in a level or scissors bite. The dark eyes are almond shaped. The ears lie flat to the head. The neck is long and strong. The height at the withers should be almost level and the abdomen well tucked up. The hipbones are quite prominent. The front legs are strong and straight and the feet are large and covered with long hair. The tail has a curl or ring at the tip, but is not carried over the back. The long, rich, silky coat is most often the color of sand with a darker face and ear fringes, though all colors are permitted. White markings, however, are discouraged.

∙ 9y agoIt is a breed of dog that was originally developed to hunt in the hill country of Afghanistan. It was brought to Europe in the late 19th century by British soldiers. It hunts by sight and in Afghanistan it has been used to hunt gazelle and leopard. It has floppy ears and a long silky coat and weighs 50-60 pounds.

∙ 12y agoUnfortunately, the official Kennel Club Breed Standard does not stipulate any guidelines for the Dog's weight, only their height. However, the American Kennel Club do say that they should weigh between 50 and 60 pounds.

∙ 12y agoThe Afghan Hound was bred to hunt and survive in desert conditions, often riding on the backs of camels with their owners to keep their paws off the hot sand. They are used for hare coursing and Dog Racing, just like Greyhounds - although they were originally bred for hunting as they are sight hounds.
