In most cars there is a switch which allows the driver to turn on the light when needed, have it off all together, or to turn on when a door is opened. Find this switch and set it to Off.
In most cars, this switch can be found near or attached to the dome light. In some American made cars, this switch is found on the dash board--usually to the left of the steering wheel. On other types of American cars it is the same switch as the "dimmer."
