Use your winter pool cover pump and mount it to the top step. I only use this when I am leaving town and expecting rain.

Should you drain your pool when it is about to overflow?

You should never completely drain an above ground pool. The chemicals in the vinyl liner that allow it to stretch when originally installed do not last. If you drain the water, the liner will shrink and when you refill the pool there is a good chance that instead of stretching back the liner will rip instead. NEVER drain your pool.

How do you reinstall a pool liner that has fallen in?

you must drain it then reattache but if it is torn you have to but a new one

How do you drain an above ground pool completely and save the liner One side of the pool wall is bowing I need to drain to fix it. If I work quickly can I save the liner How?

Drain it with a sump pump (you can rent one cheap) as for saving the liner it is kind of a craps shoot sometimes they stay in place and sometimes they move before pool is empty. Try draining it 1/2 way and see if that makes it possible to repair that has worked for me in the past, but they are usually are not savable I've worked on pools for 10 years and most of the time we drain an above ground pool the liner has to be replaced. Good Luck

Can you dig a trench around the perimeter of the pool and have it drain into a stone pit to solve a floating liner problem?

Yes

How do you drain water out of a pool?

If it is a vinyl liner pool you have to use a submersible pump. You can get a small one for right at $100.

Can you reinstall a Doughboy expandable liner by taking the coping off?

No! Leave the coping on the pool. Pull the liner over the top of the coping and clip it where the liner is sagging down and only touching in the middle without any wrinkles and then start the water. As the pool fills readjust the liner. Click this link to download the full instructions from Doughboy http://www.doughboy-pools.com/img/documentsearch/pdf/AG02DOUGHBOYRND.pdf

How do you replace the liner of an above ground pool 28 feet across and 4 feet high?

It isn't easy, I did one once. You start by marking the middle of the liner and put it in loosely and tape it on the outside of the metal so the middle just touches the bottom and is centered as beat as you can. Start the water and as it fills you will have to loosen the liner with the tape. This will cause the bottom to stretch out smooth on the bottom (hope you have nice clean sand on the bottom). Keep loosening the liner as it fills so it fits tight and smooth on the bottom. As it reaches the sides you keep it filling and watch the sides as it fills. It is important to have the bottom level and smooth Prior to the instillation above. Good luck, it is worth the effort once it is done. But with winter coming on, I don't know if I would do it now, maybe in the Spring.

How do you refill an above ground pool?

Stick a hose in it and turn the tap on. Keep an eye on it as it fills so you can pull any creases out of the liner before there is too much water pressure on it.

How can you keep the vacuum from sticking to the bottom of the pool and making wrinkles in the liner?

Sounds like you have too much suction in the skimmer. If you have 2 skimmers and have plugged one to vacuum, try taking it out. If you do not have 2 skimmers and have a main drain, try diverting some more of the suction to the main drain. I am not sure why you would be getting wrinkles unless your liner is loose or you have water behind the liner causing this. Hope this helps

Are you supposed to empty a pool in the spring to clean it before using it?

NO, do not do that. Your liner will shrink and you will be sorry as I was. They told me at the pool place to do it and now my liner is ruined and have to buy another one. Won't be from the idiots that told me to drain and scrub it tho! Good luck!

Is there a way to replace the sand that has been washed out from under my above ground pool after repairing the leak which caused the problem I'd rather not drain it and remove liner to fix it.?

No the amount of weight exerted on the liner of even a litle water makes this imposible to do.
