Unfortunately, there is animal cruelty everywhere. In China, they capture stray dogs and cats, and eat them. However, this raises the interesting conundrum: Would this be mistreatment of the animals, or the people? The people are staving, so are they justified in eating defenseless dogs and cats? Don't we in America eat defenseless chicken? Is it just a different culture?

So the answer is, it depends on your point of view.

Unfortunately, these videos have provoked a lot of racism against Chinese people on the internet, as many are quick to denounce the Chinese as bad people because of this. This is wrong, since most Chinese people do not intentionally abuse animals. A new law has been proposed in mainland China which would prohibit a significant amount of cruelty to animals. Taiwan and Hong Kong already have tight animal welfare laws, and locals are seeking to expand them.
