What is the difference between puppetry and ventriloquism?
A puppeteer makes no effort to disguise that they are operating the puppet. They may be hidden by a curtain or off-camera. A ventriloquist creates the illusion the puppet is alive as a separate personality on the stage. This is done through still lips when the puppet is talking and conversational dialog in which the ventriloquist will interact with the character.
What are puppets?
Puppets are made up of foam, latex or both. Puppets can also be carved out of wood, they are called ventriloquist dummies. Puppets are used by puppeteers and ventriloquists in a puppet show. Ventriloquists make you believe that the sound is actually coming from the puppet and it is speaking since they can speak without moving their lips. If you want to have a look at the full body latex puppets try googling Allpro puppets or just latex puppets or ventriloquist dummies.

What is ventriloquism?
The act of throwing ones voice to decept their audience to believe that their voice is coming from another source rather than themselves. An example would be a hand-held puppet but a common misconception people have is that this is the only ability of a ventriloquist. Ventriloquists can throw their voices at an amazing distance, tricking people to think that their voice is on the other side of a large room. In some instances, a ventriloquist can throw their voice at an even greater distance than this.

Where can you find a Walter ventriloquist dummy?
Generally, a puppet presented on TV or on stage is copyrighted, and unless sold as merchandise, you won't find any replicas sold. If you want something for decoration, then check out whether or not there is merchandise available. If you want a puppet for a performance, then I suggest you come up with your own designs and either make it yourself or commission a puppet maker. (Puppet makers can and do refuse to make replicas of copyrighted designs) Furthermore, you will most likely get sued if you try and perform with someone else's copyrighted character.
