Well normally from the mid 90's cars you shouod not be able to move the shift lever out of park w/o stepping on the brake - if you can then the brake interlock relays or system is broken. You should always put on your parking brake when you have the shift lever in park. There is a small pin that goes in the xmission to preent it from moving. It can brake and cause damage to the xmission. == Answer ++ Also, if you put a car into gear while giving it gas, you are putting extra stress on the transmission. You could damage the transmission. And NEVER shift into part while the car is moving.
Kinetic energy becomes heat by way of the friction caused by braking.
Normally this is caused by a weak ground at the left turn signal bulb.
The brake lights.
Probably a faulty brake light switch or the brake light switch is installed incorrectly.

George Westinghouse invented the automatic air brake in 1869
Whether or not the brake and/or gas pedals are pressed, how far they are pressed, & for how long.
I have had the same problem with my '93 Impreza. The button on the automatic shifter will not depress to take it out of park. There is an override option in the owner's manual but I think the real problem is the brake light sensor. Ocassionaly, when I can actually get it out of park, you can hear a clicking noise when the brake petal is pressed, this is the shifter-lock releasing. It must be the sensor for the brake petal going bad.
The brake pads on a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 are replaced by removing the wheels, unbolting the calipers, and taking out the brake pads. The caliper piston must be pressed back in before new pads are installed.

an automatic safety brake is activated by the lack of electricity applied to a magnet or solenoid, these mechanical devices apply the brake when power fails. the brake is held open / off when electricity is on
check the brake light fuse. Most cars have an interlock system that keeps the car from shifting out of park unless the brake pedal is pressed. If something has caused the fuse to burn out, the system doesn't know you are applying the brakes. What caused the fuse to blow out will have to be researched after.
