I'm not sure but heres a good quote from Albert Einstein that pretty much sums up the situation.

"I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones"

A nuclear war could happen, yes..

According to the Fatima messages it will happen soon. Another visionary, Duke Puntalangit, warns that 2010 will see the outbreak of World War 3. But these things are more "prophecy" than actual matter-of-fact assurances that there will be a nuclear war.

It is more likely that an act of nuclear terrorism will occur rather than an all-out nuclear conflict. If a nuclear war should occur, it will probably not "appear" as if by magnic, but will come at the end of an escaliting string of confrontations and exercises in brinksmanship.

The first Nuclear war, was WW2 which ended in 1945 (2 nuclear weapons were used in combat).

Since then many countries used the threat of nuclear weapons to intimidate opponents; but none were actually forced to back up their threats with actions. Israel which is believed to have nuclear weapons actually had parts of it's homeland briefly occupied by foreign powers without going nuclear; as well China, Russia, Pakistan and South Africa all had somewhat violent changes of government while in possession of nuclear weapons without any being used, so clearly people are strongly disinclined to kill on that scale and we can hope they continue feeling so for a long time

Nuclear war is possible as long as nuclear weapons are kept. In a universe of infinite possibilities a better question would be "Is nuclear war probable in the near future" The answer is a complicated question of global politics. For example the odds of Russia, China and the USA shooting it out is pretty low. While we don't always see eye to eye we got past most of the nuclear peranoia between the 3 big nuclear powers during the cold war.

However the arival of new players in the nuclear build up game is not well received by those with nuclear power. For example while North Korea's claim to have nuclear weapons is debated because of the lack of third party documentation the sudden interest in a space program that is very arguably a long range missile test program support North Korea being a new nuclear power. Now with that in mind the list of countries North Korea doesn't get along with is a little long. Should North Korea arbitrarily decide to attack South Korea like in the 2010 artillery "target practice" incident then north korea going nuclear wouldn't be much of a surprise, especially if they were losing. How ever aside from the failed rocket launch North Korea hasn't been up to much but the situation can develop dramatically in a few hours notice.

On a different end of things there is arguments that Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons. The highly suspected nuclear power Israel has expressed an interest in attacking Iran. In this situation it is harder to read threw the information and disinformation. The clear facts are Iran and Israel both have access to Nuclear energy and the resources and know how to put together a nuclear weapon. The disinformation beguines with the allegations of Israeli forces being behind the assassination of Iranian nuclear scientist, framing Iran for the attacks in India, Georgia and Thailand

It's very important to no take things at face value and article headlines. What is important is regardless of who is responsible for the attack you have the problem of 2 countries who want to get at each others throats and both could potentially push the red button if backed into a corner. In that scenario it's all over there and we just have fallout to watch out for. Where things get tricky is if the skeptics are correct in the claim that Israel is framing Iran for terrorist bombings. If this practice was applied with a nuclear wepon on US soil the American people would be pretty quick to demand Iran removed from the face of the earth.

The short answer is yes nuclear war is possible. But for the moment things are stable. That stability as always is only a few minutes away from things getting very hot. As this is written on 4/28/2012 it could be a completly different world next week.

Is there a possibility for personal, home nuclear power generation in the near future?

After searching for an answer to this question I can only find information on nuclear power generation in power station. I would assume that this complete lack of any information in relation to home nuclear power generation means it will not be a possibility in the near future.

Is there any chance of a nuclear explosion from a nuclear power plant?

No. There is no possibility whatsoever of a nuclear power plant having a nuclear explosion. It is not physically, or even theoretically, possible for the core to be brought into a super-prompt critical geometry and held there long enough to consume enough fuel to "go nuclear".
