Most alternators are held in by 2 or 3 bolts. Some have nuts on the back side also. There is no way around these bolts, as they are what holds the alt in. If you are unsure whether or not they will go back in, then you can use Teflon tape or thread locker or even thread a small piece of wire through the hole to tighten the bolt as it goes in. Not removing the bolts requires taking the alt with the whole bracket it is mounted to out. That is no simple task as usually the A/C, Power Steering and other assorted pieces are mounted to that.
Problem with your alternator, possibly the diode pack or brushes. Remove them, (Can be done without removing the alternator) New unit for this is about $30 .
the alternator is on the bottom right side of the motor and it is hard to get to without removing the engine but it can be done without removing the whole motor you take the belt off and detach the cables then there are 2 bolts that you take out then you pry it out and replace,
There model that the number are located at Left side near the engine mounting, but you cannot see it without removing the the engine mounting and it require special tools
* Disconnect the negative battery cable * Raise the car and support it securely on jackstands.Remove the lower splash shield beneath the alternator and the right-side inner fender splash shield * Remove the drivebelt * Disconnect the electrical connector and the alternator output wire from the alternator * Remove the engine cooling fan and shroud * Remove the air conditioning compressor mounting bolts (without disconnecting the refrigerant lines) and slide the compressor forward * Remove the alternator mounting bolts and remove the alternator from the engine

I believe it's on the left side next to the firewall. Impossible to get to from the top without removing have the engine.
When the belt tensioner fails, you have to stop almost immediately or the engine will overheat and suffer serious damage or destruction. I am assuming that the bolt itself is not stripped; the receiving mounting hole in the engine is stripped. And I am pretty sure that the mounting area is aluminum. Therefore, it should be fairly easy to tap the hole for an over-sized bolt. Select a tap that is just larger than the stripped bolt. I would not recommend the JB weld since if it fails, you are stuck without warning. Best of luck!

remove tire. remove bottom mount. pullout through bottom.
Changingalternator for Rover 75 PetrolDisconnect your battery first1. You need full set socket spanners2. Remove the engine cover- it has 2 bolts3. Remove the engine mounting - it has 7 bolts-before you remove the mountings support the engineunderneath with your wheel jack4. Remove the remove a supporting bar which is front and same level with the alternator- 2 bolts5. After removing the mounting there is lots of space to work on now6. Remove the alternator mounting -2 bolts and remove the connections7. If you want adjust the tensioner- but it can be done without adjusting the tensioner. you need a special tool to release the tensioner8. Put back the new alternator. Fit the belt on all other pukleys and then slide it in the front smooth pulley that is posterior to the dip stick....and replace all bolts....you are done....Fadzrek....DIY
yes,of course- starter has 2 main mounting bolts, and some wiring looms
