Bungie said that Halo: Reach will be their last game in the Halo franchise, and he will be in that, assuming it's anything like the book. However, I can't gurantee that you will be able to play as him. As far as I know, there isn't going to be a Halo 4, but Bungie may change their minds about that.
Will halo be the same without bungie?
It depends... Gear Box probably won't make Halo the way Bungie did but, a former Bungie employee is at the head of Gear Box. In my opinion, Halo will never be same and Bungie has done just about everything, like in ODST, every mission you're a different character, or 3, Master Chief and the Arbiter, and finally Reach, a fully customizable character, firefight, forge, etc. Gear Box will have to be creative if they want to keep Halo alive.

Exept for gears of war. Couldn't be more wrong, bungie made halo wrote halo made the entire game, Microsoft however bought it out when it started making lots of money. Why did bungie stop making halo?
When Microsoft bought Bungie they also bought Halo, and so when Bungie split from Microsoft they no longer had the rights to make the games. But Microsoft still wanted Halo games so they had Bungie make Halo 3, ODST and Reach, this is also the reason why Ensemble Studios was allowed to make Halo Wars, Microsoft 'chose' them to make a Halo game. Now Bungie are done with Halo and are working on a new IP for Activision, but again, Microsoft still wants more Halo games, so they created 343 Industries to hold the responsibility of future Halo projects.

During this transition several staff members from bungie decided they would rather keep working on Halo rather than move onto something else, several of the 343i employees wanted to help bungie out on their newer projects. To they traded a large group of employees. So all in all you don't need to ever worry that the future Halo games such as Halo 4 are not going to be like the previous games as several of the people helping make it are the people who make Halo CE, 2, 3, and Reach.

I don't know what the deal was with the previous answser but anyway. Halo:CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo 3: ODST were all made by Bungie Studios, which they are all frist person shooters. As Halo Wars was made by Ensemble Studios with Bungie's permition. Halo: Reach will more than likely be a first person shooter. Although Bungie was sort of thinking about messing with Project Natal a bit.. If you don't know what Project Natal is just look it up on Youtube

Bungie the creator of Halo because their was a contract. It was the year 2000. They don't like Microsoft but they have to make games for them or Microsoft will close their company down. It started the year about around 2000. The person who created Bungie decided to quit Bungie.
Why didn't Halo 4 come out in 2009?
Because they (Bungie/343 Industries) were working on other games. Like, Halo: Reach and Halo: ODST. They also gave the work over to 343 Industries to make it.
