Yes. Most notable will be the fact of your battery not getting the proper charge, therefore it being dead. Next will be your lights "dimming" within the car. Your headlights, dash lights, etc will all get lighter at different points with the car running. If these things start happening, take your vehicle to your nearest parts house and have them test your alternator. Most will do it for free, and then maybe you can nip the problem in the bud, maybe before your stranded somewhere with a dead battery. Hope this helps.
There are several signs that an alternator is going bad. A few signs are dim lights, smell, warning lights, and a dead battery.
A few symptoms and obvious signs of a bad alternator are the battery not charging, dim lights, and a warning light.
Usually no warning signs unless a bearing is going bad, Other than that it just stops charging the battery. what about overcharging? alternator is 10 months old, as is battery, same problem
If you mean all the warning lights come on at once this usually indacates the alternator is bad. It is either under or over charging (usually under) is a typical Toyota sign of an alternator going out.
Alternator has/is going bad.
There are generally two signs that the alternator is going bad. First is the noise. A new noise will begin to be heard. Something like a whining when the car is accelerating. Second is the smell. You may smell burning from the engine department.
A bad alternator will not give proper power to the vehicle. Dim lights, buzz in the stereo or a dead battery could all be causes of a bad alternator.
Here are some symptoms of a bad alternator:Step 1One of the immediate things that you may notice is that the lights on your dash and inside your car dim at random times and then seem to work again. When this happens you may notice that your engine acts strangely too. This is one of the classic warning signs of a bad alternator. This is because the alternator is beginning to fail and is intermittently not putting out enough juice to power the car.Step 2You may find that you have to repeatedly jump start your car after turning it off. This in and of itself isn't one of the warning signs of a bad alternator, but it is very indicative. As long as your battery is in good condition and isn't too old then this problem generally points to your alternator. This is because the alternator isn't providing enough electricity to properly charge the battery and because of this it runs down while you are driving and doesn't have enough power to restart your car. Don't ignore a problem like this or you will prematurely wear out your battery or become stranded someplace.Step 3A noisy alternator is another warning sign that it is going bad. This is because the bearings inside go out and you can usually hear this when your hood is open. The sound will be coming from the area where your serpentine belt and alternator are and will sound like a sort of rattling spinning noise. It will be loud enough to make you wonder if something is wrong.Step 4If your engine is stalling completely, that is one of the signs that your alternator is almost completely dead. Make sure that you don't drive your car in this condition and have a mechanic or technician check it right away. This means that your alternator is so shot that it can't even keep the car running and is one of the last warning signs you will get before you can't even start your vehicle.
It is built into your alternator
Wrong alternator or new alternator is bad. no resetting needed
Signs that your alternator is going bad will include but not be limited to: Electronics such as Stereo, CB, Etc turn off. Gauges such as Speedometer and Tach read in accurately or stop functioning. Motor won't start.
Get your charging system checked out as it sounds like your alternator is going bad or the battery is shot.
