Witchcraft is a practice in its own right, independent of any spiritual or religious pathway. The Wiccan religion does incorporate witchcraft, but it is primarily a spiritual pathway incorporating many elements including observance and celebration of the natural cycle, Gods and Goddesses, and personal development.

Is it possible to practice witchcraft without it being religious ie Paganism Wicca and if so what are some books or sites about it?

Witchcraft is not linked to a religion. Not all Pagans practice witchcraft and not all witchcraft practitioners are Pagan. If you were to define nonreligious as the absence of deity then try practicing Wicca. With Wicca, there is no claim to worship a deity, but rather, nature. Also, Paganism is not a religion. It is an umbrella term defining a specific type of religion.

What regelion do witches follow?

A Witch is someone who practices WitchCraft. Witches could follow any religion that accepts WitchCraft. (The word Wtch does not mean Female. A male could also practice Witchcaft, and be called as a Witch) Many Witches follow a pagan religion. There is a large number of Witches who follow Wicca as their religon; but this does Not mean that all Witches follow Wicca, or All Wiccans practice WitchCraft. WitchCraft itself is a religion. Wicca is a new religion which is very simillar to the ancient religion of Witches.

Did Wicca start in Britain?

No Wicca became popular in Britain in the 1950's, it did not start in the 1950's. Wicca or Paganism has been around for eons. Look back to ancient history, starting with Celtic tradition (just a place to start) even then Celtic beliefs will take you further back to when Wicca originated No one really knows when Wicca began, were not really suppose to, it is a simple fact of the faith. Shamanism, Paganism and Witchcraft has been around since the civilization of humans. But Wicca started as a religion in England in 1950's. There is no evidence of the existence of Wicca before that. Even Gerald Gardner does not claim so. That practice Gerald Gardner was referring to, that existed for a very long time, was Witchcraft, not Wicca. Wicca and Witchcraft are two things, not the same. Even Witchcraft was not called as Witchcraft since 1600. It is actually Shamanism. The word Witchcraft was introduced by the Vatican in 1600 to call all the Pagan beliefs, nature worship and Shamanism.

Are Witchcraft and Wicca the same?

In short, witchcraft and wicca can be taken as two comepletely different things. Wicca is the belief in certain deities, and is seen as more of a religion. Witchcraft is the practice of using instuments and natural remedies to attain something. Although these two things can seem different they are often used interchangably. This is just a misunderstanding. In a sense you can be a wiccan witch, worshipping the deities by preforming spells and rituals, which is the most common found practice. Regardless, you can be wiccan and not preform witchcraft, or you can be a witch and not believe in the deity system that wicca has. Most cases, the one leads to the other, which may be the cause of the misunderstanding. Hope this helps, and Blessed Be.

What religions does Voo Doo have in common with?

Voodoo shares similarities with some African traditional religions, such as the Yoruba religion in Nigeria and Candomblé in Brazil, due to its focus on ancestor veneration, spirit possession, and connection to nature. It also has influences from Catholicism, as seen in the syncretic practices of Haitian Vodou and Louisiana Voodoo.

What is modern witchcraft or wicca?

In a way both are modern. But Wicca is more modern overall - since it is a branch of witchcraft. To better explain - All Wiccans are Witches, but not all Witches are Wiccan. Paganism is the oldest religion involving witchcraft.

Is the spell to becoming a mermaid witchcraft?

No. First of all, spells and mermaids are not real, so it doesn't really witchcraft. Witchcraft, at least the Western conception of it, is tied to the religion of Wicca. Most folklore relating to magic is not related to Wicca.

Can Wicca be practiced with out a religious belief?

Yes. One of the easiest ways to do this is to belive in the voice of nature. Then, your journey begins. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok, I seem an obvious misconception here. Wicca... is a religion. Witchcraft and spellwork are practices. Wicca is not spells, that's witchcraft.

You are writing a childrens book are there any specific gods that witches supposedly believe in?

Witches practice Witchcraft. There are so many variations of Witchcraft. Witchcraft is also a religion, but more than that it is a practice, a craft. Wicca is a religion where Witchcraft is considered as a part of it, and widely believed by many who practices Witchcraft. But not all those practice Witchcraft believes Wicca. In Wicca there is a male God and a Female Goddess. The male God is the Sun, a Horned God. The Female Goddess is the Moon and symbolizes fertility. They are Feminine and Masculine forces of nature. There are many Witches who invoke the four spirits (or Archaingles) of elements Earth, Air, Fire and Water. Those who practice the solomonic Magick may invoke the 72 Goetia angles (sometimes called demons). Those spirits have unique characteristics, and invoked as necessory. Casting a magic circle and working within that safe, sacred space is a common feature of many paths of Witchcraft. Feel free to contact me, I'm more than happy to share information: Vishvax
