Each tax payment that you make at the bank must be accompanied by the correct Challan. The bank gives you the counterfoil (stub) and keeps the rest of the Challan. Keep the counterfoil for your records because it has the Challan Identifiction Number that uniquely identifies your tax payment.

Go to the India Income Tax Department website at incometaxindia.gov.in to print Challans.
