To connect to the internet on an Xbox 360 (wired or wireless connection) is free, with this you can connect to other devices on your home network, access an internet browser etc. To play games online or access any other features of "LIVE" like streaming movies or sharing achievements you need to purchase a licence to use it called "Xbox LIVE".
