If you have been best friends with him for that long you need to think about how it could jeopardise your friendship, but if you like him that much, go ask him if he likes you, don't just take your friends word for it, she might just like him too and be scared that if you like him he probably likes you and she is being a back stabber.
However that may not be that case! So basically be truthful with him see how he feels and if he doesn't like you back, make sure you stay close friends - tell him it was just a phase - and then maybe go out with a different boy to prove that too him. If he does like you back then go snog his face off! And confront your friend about lying to you as well. There you go love.
