Really dark brown usually means the blood isn't fresh (could be a couple days old and just took time to travel out of the vagina). So it likely is not a menstrual flow but vaginal bleeding of some kind. There could be many causes (i.e. cyst, implantation, endometriosis). You should see a doctor.
