John Smith did not found a colony. The Virginia Company founded a colony at Jamestown, Virginia. It turned into a disaster. He took it over, turned it around, and made it successful.
New England was founded by several different people. John Winthrop was one of the people that founded the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Thomas Hooker founded the Connecticut Colony, and John Mason founded the New Hampshire Colony. Two of the founders of the Rhode Island Colony were Anne Hutchinson and Roger Williams. Of course, all of these people had help from other settlers in getting these colonies to grow and prosper.

John Wheelwright did not found a Colony on his own. He was a religious leader in the Massachusetts Bay Colony for a while, but was banished from there. He and his wife, who was the main reason for the banishment, founded the town of Exeter, New Hampshire.
