federal protocol calls for at least eighteem inches, I'd go nineteen but your going to ruin a good shotgun for anything other than self protection.
The first gun going off at the battle of Lexington and Concord (in on a Lexington bridge) This is the first shot of the American revolution 1775.
Its called a 21-Gun salute. 7 men each with a rifle fires off 3 shots in a row simultaneously. This is to honor veterans of the armed forces, and or police force.
J.E.B. Stuart was shot by Shedrick Pealer of the 1st NY Dragoons. The distance involved could have only happened with a Spencer carbine and not a revolver. Pealer was a marksmen and had his gun resting on a post when he shot at Stuart. John Huff, 5th Mich. who claims to have shot him, had a hand gun and was moving at the time. My info comes from a letter by Rev. James R. Bowen, After marking off the distance and firing the 2 guns that Pealer and Huff had, a 4 foot target was hit 3 out of 5 times by the Spencer, and Huff's gun missed the target all 5 times!!!!!!.........Tom

It may very well be worth your life in jail. ATF measures barrel lengths from a different point than some of the cut off guys. Make sure that it is the proper length according to ATF laws. If it is not get rid of the barrel and replace it with another. Until you find out if the gun is legal take the upper and lower receiver apart. Store the lower somewhere away from the gun barrel. Have a certified Gun Smith, who is willing to attach his name to a document that states the barrel is legal. Keep this document in a safe place. It may be worth gold at a later date if you are charged with an illegal weapon.
The BATFE webiste has the information you are looking for.
Get a shorter barrel and swich it out or saw off part of the one you have.

Take it to a gunsmith
A pistol grip shotgun ( they made a .410 Handy Gun with a ball sight ) is useful with small shot or if you are using slugs. Careful, the length of the gun must still be legal. Often dramatized in movies ( MAD MAX, sawed-off 12 ga. with a pistol grip is one of many ) they show the shooter using one hand stuck straight out......No way !!, The blowback will break your wrist or literally fly out of your hand.
No self-defense laws allow shooting back but you have to say that you thought they had a real gun.
No. The first ball contacted by the cue ball must be the 8 ball to be a legal shot. However, if you use the opponent's ball as a carom shot after hitting the 8 ball, yes, this is a legal shot.
Well since sawed off shot guns are illegal in the US I wouldn't imagine the person you buy it from will check I'd. To buy a regular shot gun you have to be 18 though.
Don't start before the gun is shot. Don't cut anybody off if your in a long distance race.
