I don't believe Winchester ever made a "model 2". My guess would be you've got a model 1902, they were sold between 1902 and 1931. (The 1899 was a patent on the bolt mechanism). There won't be a serial number on it, they didn't bother numbering their lower end stuff to save on production costs. Since you can't read the numbers, I'm guessing it's probably not in real great shape, so I wouldn't try shooting it without having a gunsmith check it out first. I doubt a 22 round would have enough power to rupture the barrel, but you never know.

Looking at Winchester models, there is nothing listed for a Model 90 with serial number 298032. They have Model 1890 in a slide action, Model 1900, 1902, and 1904 in a bolt action rifle.
