well it doesnt really demarcate something that isn't really a boundary
because there was never any agreement about it by the parties it divides
but it is a line the british originally adopted & the Indians have subsequently maintained only unilaterally & only hypothetically to divide them from the Chinese
who themselves still do not recognize it at all
but since it substantially follows the line of actual military control between china & India today it is often used as a code word or shorthand expression for this de facto frontier
which extends from Bhutan in the west to burma in the east
& keeps the state of arunachal pradesh in India & the province of Tibet in china
as they are shown on most western maps today
