SEE : Dexcool coolant CLASSACTION. I "1000%" WOULD SUGGEST TO GET IT OUT OF YOUR SYSTEM.
It was proven that Dexcool eats away at your gaskets........$$$$$$$$
Approx. 33,000,000 cars & trucks made between 1994 or 95- 2004 were represented.
MANY MODELS, including many of the assembled in Mexico brands. ie caddillac
If you have any of the models listed at the classaction suit. I would talk to anyone but Gm regarding this........ Their dealers were putting dexcool back in, after fixing Blown headgaskets......... The factory claimed they told the dealers, The dealers claimed they didnt Know.....
have a Reputable mechanic look at your car { if you really want to keep it} & he will be able to advise you on what to use....
The answer is no. any regular or universal antifreeze will gum up and ruin your entire cooling system when it is mixed with dexcool. If you want to use any green coolant you will need to drain and flush your your system first.
The 2001 leasable is designed to use Dexcool type antifreeze. Dexcool is not compatible with other coolant types, the cannot be mixed.
SEE DEXCOOL CLASSACTION SUIT" I would NOT use it.......$$$$. I HAVE SEEN THE GUNK & BLOWN HEADGASKETS................................$$$$$$$$$$
Generally, you should have about a 50/50 (%) mixed of antifreeze and distilled water. GM recommends using Dexcool antifreeze. I would recommend that you use whatever antifreeze that is in there now and stick with the 50/50 mix. Take Care, Greg Also take care that if your van came with Dexcool (red in color) DO NOT add normal anti-freeze (green) to it. The Dexcool is lifetime antifreeze, and it will GEL if you add normall to it and bye bye engine. If it's red top up with Dexcool, or flush and refill with normal. Regards Brash911
The Volkswagen equivalent antifreeze is the RED antifreeze known as Dexcool. Do not use the green or blue or any other type or you will be looking for trouble.
Dexcool is considered a organic compound, as regular antifreeze is considered a glycol compound. They are not compatible with each other, although there are what is called universal antifreeze's available that supposedly can be mixed in either. Also as a side note, there are no official colors of antifreeze. A manufacturers antifreeze can be any color he chooses. It is up to the person to determine what antifreeze is suitable for a car or truck.
It came from the factory with Dexcool. At the present there are several class action lawsuits against Gm for using Dexcool as it will get like red clay if subjected to air. I suggest you us the green antifreeze.
it hasnt gone orange. alot of vehicles, all gms for example, use dexcool antifreeze wich is orange.you cannot mix it with green antifreeze.
There has been a very lively discussion going on about "Red" or Dexcool
Was built with Dexcool. A lot of people switch to green.
It came with "Dex Cool" in it originally. (Red colored fluid). This antifreeze is responsible for softening the seals and causing intake gasket leaks on small block GM vehicles. Flush the dex-cool out as best you can and refill it with antifreeze that is designed to be mixed with either type of coolant. Mixing regular antifreeze with Dexcool unless it states on the container that it is intended to be mixed with it will cause the Dexcool to turn to jello and will plug up your system. Dexcool should be removed and flushed out COMPLETELY before adding any other type of antifreeze.
The 1997 Saturn used dexcool antifreeze. The chemical compounds are different and should never be mixed, as the engine will no longer cool properly.
