Can you share a wireless connection through a router or hub?

YES, the first thing to understand is that there is a vast difference in the two. HUB and ROUTERS (Hub is a Traffic Cop, that is able to focus on the job at hand and perform exactly as needed with traffic. A router is merely a traffic light that performs exactly as commanded.) Now any wireless hub or router will connect any wireless device, but to share a high speed intenet (Cable or DSL)you MUST have a HUB. Hubs are designed to receive a broadband carrier and wireless traffic. But if you having difficulty connecting most likely your wireless devices are not finding or detecting the wireless router or hub. Winxp is unusual, but the best fail safe here is install software for all devices and SHUTDOWN everything! Broadband modems, wireless hub/router and all connected computers. Disconnect power to Broadband modems and wireless hub/router. Wait 10-15 seconds then Plug in power to Braodband modem first. Then wait about 5 seconds and plug in wireless hub/router. Once bioth devices are light up normally turn on all connected computers. The computers should detect the system and self route to compleation.

Have set up new router when you click on to see if its connected you see a small yellow warning circle is something wrong?

I have no idea if anything is wrong or not. However, my router, had to be plugged in and programmed. I had to plug the wire that normally goes between the router and the modem between the router and the computer. Then I had to type in passwords. After that, I plugged the router into the modem and the little yellow light turned green. You may have a booklet or you may be able to see an instruction manual on the internet.

How do you connect a linksys wireless router to a Verizon modem and computer?

1. Make sure all devices are powered on. Modem should have Power light on. 2. Plug DSL phone line in from wall jack to modem. Modem should now have DSL light on (first with slow blink, then fast blink, then steady). 3. Plug Ethernet cable into modem, then into internet port (the one by itself) on the router. Modem should not have Ethernet light on, Router will have internet light on. 4. Type 192.168.1.1 in a browser window. User name is blank, password is admin. 5. Under internet connection type, change to PPPoE 6. Enter your Verizon user name and password. Make sure "Keep alive" is checked. 7. Save settings. You should be online.

Do you need a wireless router if you want xbox live or can you just have the wireless networking adapter?

you need both because the wireless networking adapter is what connects to the wireless router.1Choose your equipment wisely. There are many types of wireless routers, and they are not all created equal. Some of the lower end wireless routers are very basic, and will limit your home network to speed of 56 megabits per second (Mbps.) This is really not a very fast speed. If your access points will be very far apart, consider getting a router with ultra-range abilities, or a dual-band router. Also, while you're at the store, be sure to pick up one wireless access point for each computer you intend to connect to your network.2Remove your DSL or cable modem from the power supply.3Remove the ethernet cable which connects your DSL or cable modem to your computer from the computer, but leave it plugged into the back of your modem. This cable looks something like a phone cord on the ends, but with much larger connectors and a larger, round cable. Do not remove the phone cord from the modem which is plugged into the telephone jack on your wall.4Connect the loose end of the ethernet cable to the internet port on the back of your router. This port should be clearly marked, and will probably be a different color than the other ports.5Reconnect your modem to the power source. To protect it, plug it into the same surge protector which guards your computer.6Plug the ethernet cable which came with your router into the ethernet connector on the network card on the back of your computer. Then plug the other end into one of the ethernet network ports on the back of the router.7Plug the router's power cord into the power supply. This device should also be protected by a surge protector. If you run out of plugs, it is well worth ten or twenty dollars to invest in a second surge protector.8Check the lights on the front or top of your router. The power light should be on, as well as the internet light, the wireless light, the security light, and a light for one of your ethernet network connections. Check to see if any lights are off, flashing, or red or amber in color. This will indicate that the router is having a problem. If any lights are not on as they should be, check your cable connections to ensure that they are securely connected. Repeat the setup steps if necessary.9Install the software provided by your wireless router's manufacturer

Why doesn't my PS3 online work?

It maybe being blocked by the Modem/router, sounds like its gaining an IP number but the modem/router ain't lettin it through my answer: Some information is missing from your question: have you verified whether the IP address assigned to your PS3 is valid or not? and Is your PS3 connecting wired or wireless? IF the IP address is VALID, then for a gaming console (xbox, ps3 or wii), there are usually some ports (as well protocols for each port) that needs to be opened on the modem/router in order for your console to gain access to the internet. On the other hand, IF the IP address is NOT valid, then you can try powercycling (means turning off your modem/router, wait for 10-15 secs. before turning it back on) your modem/router then check whether there is a corresponding ethernet light on the modem/router. If there is no ethernet light, then try another ethernet cable. Otherwise, the modem/router may be malfunctioning - in which case you can try connecting another device to your modem/router to check if the ethernet connection is not working IF your PS3 is connected wirelessly, is it finding the wireless network name on your modem/router? If the IP address is NOT valid, then its a simple password issue. Some PS3 does not support 128-bit encryption (might be a firmware issue on the PS3) - in which case use 64-bit. If IP address is valid, then its time to contact PS3 to get the port numbers and the protocols.

Your modem light on your wireless router keeps flashing affecting your up download speeds it was supplied by your isp if you get a new modem would that solve the problem?

Had a similar problem. First try and check ALL your cable connections between your telephone line and your router. Even if they look secure, physically disconnect and reconnect them. Infact check all connection to the telephone socket in the same way.

Mark is calling technical support for assistance with his internet connection He explains that the DSL light on his DSL modem is blinking Describe how you would handle the situation?

Firstly, check which light on your modem is blinking. Depending on the make and model of your router or modem, a blinking light can be good or bad. If it is supposed to be blinking, then the issue is with your network; if it is not supposed to be blinking, then the issue is with your internet or router. If the light should be solid, then try turning everything connected to your network, laptops, PCs, phones and most importantly the modem or router, off. Wait for 5 minutes, allow the power supplies to cool, then turn the router back on, wait a further 3 minutes then reboot your computer, this should acquire a new IP address. If this still hasn't worked then a new router may be the answer. If the light is supposed to be blinking but you still cannot access the internet, ensure all cables are securely inserted into their respective sockets. If an Ethernet cable is inserted properly, a yellow light will blink both on the router or modem and the computer. If all cables are in properly, check the icon in the bottom of your Windows screen, moving your mouse over the icon, it should explain whether or not there is internet access. If this does not work, disconnect everything except your main computer to the router as there may be a conflict of IP addresses. By reconnecting them in sequence, rather than all at once, you should be able to ensure each device acquires individual addresses.

802.11n usb wireless lan card slow download speed fix?

Any number of things may be causing a slow data transfer. If your router is handling multiple wireless connections, then you are only getting a portion of the available wireless bandwidth. If there are any other wireless routers/networks nearby, they may be using the same channel as your network, interfering with your bandwidth and forcing retries.Nearby electrical appliances may be generating interference causing your network to perform retries and slowing down your network. This could be a microwave, cordless or cell phone or fluorescent light fixtures. There could be congestion from multiple other data transfers taking up available bandwidth. There could be a problem with your internet modem, router , lan card, or the software driving them. Try rebooting them and see if it helps. There could be a problem with your ISP (Internet Service Provider) or their connection to your house.Things to try:Try using a wired connection. If a wired connection works better than the problem is related to the wireless networking. If the wired connection still has a slow transfer, the problem may be in your router, modem or isp connection. reboot your router and/or modem to see if it clears the problem before calling your ISP.There are free utilities available to see who else is doing wifi and on what channels. If other networks are using the same channel as your network, change the channel setting on your router to an unused channel. There are web sites to measure transmission speed. See if it gets faster by moving your computer closer to the wireless router. If it does, than you may be getting interference locally.

How do you reset your wireless gateway modem?

To reset a cable modem, unplug the power cable for a few moments and plug it back in. If there is a "standby" button on the modem you may need to hit this after plugging it back in, if there is only one light showing for several seconds. Some modems will also have a depressed RESET button that you can push with the help of an unraveled paper clip or ballpoint pen. Hold this button in for 5-10 seconds. This is more frequently found on VOIP or Telephony capable cable modems (these often contain batteries that hold power for hours while the modem is unplugged). After resetting the modem it is good practice to do the same with a router (if you have one connected) and as well restarting your computer to receive new IP address information and lease.
