If all the gauges in the clustor are working and only the speedometer is not, I suspect the Vehicle Speed Sensor which is located in the transaxle. Easy to replace and only about $15.

There is no recall on the speedometer, though it a very common problem.
speedometer has no wiring,it is an electronic module, needs replacement- check e-bay,there are many available there
we are trying to take the rotors off on our 98 cadillac deville but we do not know which way to turn the bolts? Does anyone have info for us....
Either the wire from the VSS to the speedometer is bad or your speedometer is bad. A common problem with this vintage of Maximas is for the speedometer head unit to go bad. The VSS sends the signal to the speedometer and the speedometer relays it to the computer - therefore, if the speedometer is bad, you would get a P0500 code. On my car, the speedometer displayed the correct speed but replacing it fixed the CEL. The speedometer costs around $200 (not including labor) and you will have to drop another $25 to get it set to the correct mileage. The replacement can be done by a competent home mechanic in 2 hours. Expect to spend several hundred dollars on labor at the dealer.
is there anyone who knows the answer?
I took my 02 liberty 6 cyl. to have it diagnosed. Stated that the speed output sensor was bad. I bought a new one and replaced it. (There are two sensors on this transmission - input and output) Speedometer still not working! I swapped sensors, since it is the same sensor for input or output, but still no speedometer working. There are two more sensors in the differential. Those did not appear on the diagnostic tool but i might consider replacing. If anyone has ran into this problem yet, please spread the wealth. Thanks.
No way around it, the intake plenum has to come out to replace the starter. Always use new gaskets and a new "bellow" gasket where the plenum meets the throttle body. A light coat of oil around the inside of the bellow seal makes it easier to slide together.
Yes. It's made by GM. Enough said?
both are under forward exhaust manifold.
There is two wires on the rear drive shaft and they are probably broken. Have them soldered and it will work fine.
For each side under the hood , right behind the light you twist and pull it out, it's tight , but if i can do it anyone can.
