Why would the AC of a 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue blow warm on the driver side and cold air on the passenger side?

The problem is the servo motor that swaps the vent door from the cooling coil to the heater coil.

Answerbefore you tear apart the dash to get to your driver side servo motor-disconnect your battery for 5-minutes, with both front doors open reconnect your battery(this resets your on board computer),then turn your car on and turn your a/c on to high with the coldest setting on both sides for dual air systems and leave the car running for a few minutes. you will feel the air cold again. there is a sensor on the passenger side that will trigger the servo motor to not move if the front door is closed. servos usually get stuck after the power was cut off. if this does not do it, have your a/c sytem checked for leaks.

I have the same problem on my 99 Olds Intrigue and tried disconnecting the negative battery cable for 5 minutes. That did not correct the problem-no change. Any advice is welcome.

AnswerThis is a Dual Climate System. If you're not familiar with this setup, there's a driver and passenger climate setting. The passenger setting knob is on the right of the climate control console. If you have already properly adjusted this setting, there's a problem with the servo motor being out of the preset range for the a/c & heater doors. Every time power is cut from the unit, the servo resets the doors by doing a "sweep" from full cold to full hot maximum range. Over time the servo will fall out of range from constant full range flexing, and the part that controls the range limit must be replaced. Reseting the main module by disconnecting the battery has a slim chance of successfully fixing the issue.

The car seems to do this after the battery is disconnected or looses power while the A/C is in the on position. I tried everything that I saw on the Internet. The only thing that worked for me immediately was to remove the a/c heat control unit from in the car, directly below your cars radio/head unit but make sure to turn the a/c off first or the ac/c doors inside will stay open and continue to blow heat in when reconnected. (how to do)Turn off the A/C first, take the cover off and remove the two screws, pull the unit out, unplug the wire harness and let it sit for 30 seconds. It will reset itself plug it back in and the a/c will work again, of course the put the cover back on ect..Should take less than 5 minutes to do.

Chevy Malibu
Water Pumps
Cadillac DeVille
Cadillac Seville

How do you replace the water pump on a 1998 Chevy Malibu v6 and what tools are needed?

You will need 8mm and 10mm sockets, and wrenches, 1/4 inch rachet and a good size pry tool like a screwdriver. I changed mine without removing the belt. The pump is behind the larger pully on the top front of the 3.1. It is smaller than the pully so you won't see it until you remove the pully. It's not difficult, just watch which way the pump is setting before removing it and put the new one in the same way you can scribe a mark to check alignment before removeal. Be sure to use some type of gasket sealer like Indian head to keep the gasket in place. Good Luck

Car Batteries
Cadillac Seville

Why would a 1985 Classic Seville with new starter battery fuel pump etc still not start?

GOT SPARK???????? check coil pack

Think logically first and foremost. Sincerely, it's usually the basic of basics. I say this because countless times I would beat my head in frustration only to find it was something simple like:

  1. The spark plug wires were connected to the wrong places.
  2. The firing order is wrong.
  3. The distributor cap was not clamped down tight enough.
  4. The carburetor is not getting fuel.
  5. Fuel line filter is dirty.
  6. Battery is to weak to turn the engine.
  7. Spark plug gauge settings to deep / not deep enough / not right.
  8. Timing chain/belt is not adjusted properly.

So, I suggest these first. Even if you've done them and done them again, do them once more. Except this time, make a physical check list on a piece of paper and give it your full attention. Don't lose your patients or you lose track of what you're doing. Remain calm.

Head Gaskets and Valve Covers
Cadillac Seville
Toyota RAV4
1995-2005 Chevy Cavaliers

How do you install head gaskets on a 1992 Cadillac Seville?

When a head gasket fails it is almost ALWAYS because the head has warped. You'll need to pull off all peripherals that keep you from getting to the head. Remove the exhaust and intake manifolds, the rocker covers, rocker arm assemblies, pull the push rods and keep track of where they came from, then pull the heads. Examine the ledge at the top of the cylinder. If there is any wear in the cylinder wall, you might as well take the engine out and have it bored and rebuilt. If the cylinders are ok, Take the heads to a machine shop and have the head surface planed to make it flat again. While it's there, it might be good to have the valves and guides looked at. After you get the heads back, put everything back together in reverse order. You'll need to tighten the head bolts in a specific sequence to avoid warping the heads during assembly, but once it's together it should be pretty solid until it gets overheated again. You should be able to get the head bolt tightening sequence from the machine shop. If it's OHC or DOHC, you should probably have someone else do it if you've never seen it done before.

Car Batteries
Cadillac Seville

On a 1999 Cadillac Seville sts replaced battery still has starting issues no click or other sound then after many attempts it starts how can this be fixed?

It sounds to me like the starter is bad,or has a loose wire. The starter is under the intake manifold and a real pain to replace but you may get lucky and be able to get it to work with a little trick I learned on mine. If you look at the engine from the driver side with a flashlight at the corner of the intake you can see down under the intake to the top of the block. take a long breaker bar or even a wooden broom handle and hit the block a few times while someone holds the key on It will vibrate the starter enough to get it to start.Once it starts you may not have the problem for a long time. Mine has been that way for over a year and has only done it 3 times.a lot easier and cheaper than replacing the starter. Hope this helps, any questions on exact location let me know and I will try to be more specific. good luck. Docb513 Could also be the ignition switch, contacts could be worn.
