The 318i has a hot/cold adjust rotary dial on the left side of the center vent that maybe set to hot. This was the same issue I had but we did not know it was there till we checked the manual.
If its been recently charged there maybe moisture in the system.

It originally came with Freon (R12). Unless it has been converted then it will still contains R12. I suggest you have it converted to R134a, as Freon is so very expensive and hard to find.
