My computer's shift key is not working and I am not able to type percentage hash star plus with pressing the shift key?

Your keyboard has two shift keys on it, one on the left and one on the right. If both of them are not working then it is unlikely that the keyboard itself is faulty. Instead it is possible that either the keyboard cable or the keyboard port on the computer is damaged (but this is unlikely if all other keys are working).
Before buying a new keyboard, try borrowing one from a friend to see if the keys work.
If you are using Microsoft Windows and a full size keyboard with a separate numerical keypad, you can also input characters using an 'ALT code'. For example, hold down the ALT key and type 43 on the numerical keypad to insert a plus sign '+'.""""""""""""" i get this when i press shift keys or caps lock to use the at symbol
11/22/10 Hi, I'm PunksterBrew just wanting to add to my experience with similar problems. Both of my shift keys were not working, but all my other buttons did. I noticed when I took out my keyboard from my laptop, shifting worked again at a certain angle as I lifted it upwards. My keyboard ribbon folds, and I suspected that was the problem. Apparently, if it folds too much, the connection is weak. All I did was Duct Tape a wedge of folded paper at the fold. Problem is fixed now, although it may be temporary.
