My yahoo messenger buddy has a message in blue next to his screen name..it says connected to screen name then a time and date.What does this mean..my buddy cant see message..and doesnt know what it is?

Connections, Contacts, Updates Oh my! End the confusion.
Showing who you are connected to is part of the new Yahoo! Profile system. It is set up so you can share Updates. That notice is your or your messenger contact's newest Connection on one's Yahoo! Profile. There are many other types of Updates that can be shared as well. Do not worry you can choose which ones you want to share and to whom you want to share them with. You can also choose to not share any Updates.
Please note that though you can choose not to share any updates you cannot choose to not see updates for a Connection or contact if you want to keep the contact or connection. After reading through many help pages about this, I think it was originally intended by default only to share these updates with Profile Connections but if "Share with anyone" is selected on people's Yahoo! Profiles that is how they get to be seen by your contacts names on your Messenger list.

Please note: There appears to currently be a glitch trying to go to Manage My Updates via Preferences in Y!M. So use the alternative method provided in the tutorial above. It will lead to the same place. Basically just sign into your Yahoo! Profile here: http://profiles.yahoo.com/ and use the Updates section, to manage your updates.

p.s. You might let your friend know that they are by default sharing the profile update about their newest profile connection and give that person those links above on how to manage updates and what connections are.
