We have turkey seasoning and fancy ovens and they did not. Also, turkeys today are raised on farms. The turkeys served at the first Thanksgiving were wild.
Venison and fowl were served during the main course of the first Thanksgiving dinner. Time generally has tended to be an enemy to the complete recording of important events. Such was true of the records from the early years of the Pilgrim settlement in the future state of Massachusetts. But the offerings of the main course were recorded and preserved for posterity's knowledge.
