The core definition includes all of Arizona, the western portion of New Mexico, bordered on the east by the Llano Estacado, the southern portions of Colorado and Utah below the 39th parallel, the "horn" of Texas (the Trans-Pecos section, below New Mexico, which includes El Paso), the southernmost triangle of Nevada, and the very most southeastern portion of California, which encompasses the Mojave and Colorado Deserts.

The Southwest Region of the United States generally includes all or portions of eight states. The eight states and their total area in square miles are Arizona (113,990 square miles), California (163,694 square miles), Colorado (104,093 square miles), Nevada (110,571 square miles), New Mexico (121,590 square miles), Oklahoma (69,898 square miles), Texas (268,596 square miles) and Utah (84,896 square miles). The eight states have a total area of 1,037,328 square miles.

In the olden days Iowa was located in the southwest. Iowa is still located in the southwest region today, we were all once the southwest when pangea was around but then the world had an earthquake and broke up and us iowans got to be the lucky ones who stayed in the southwest region also Eddie is a loser.
We have left all of the manufacturing to developing countries such as China and India. Arizona still has some manufacturing, therefore by default it is probably the largest manufacturing state in the southwest United States.

The Southwest is a cultural region because it is home to several people of all races, creeds, and nationalities. This included Native Americans, Mexican Americans, Mexicans, Asians, African Americans, Africans, and several others. The Southwest is also home to several restaurants, as well as cultural and heritage festivals that celebrate the diversity of the region as a whole.
They are known as the Southwest region of the US because they are all on the southern border. They all generally have the same weather, hot and dry.
