What sect of Muslims live in Syria Sunnis or Shiites?

Syria is roughly 80% Sunni. There are some Shiites, primarily Ismailis, but most of the remaining 20% is made of other religious groups like the ruling Alawites, Druze, and Christians. (Alawites and Druze are sometimes considered to be forms of Shiite Islam and sometimes -- properly -- considered to be Post-Islamic Religions that jumped off from Shiite Islam.)

What are the largest two groups of Islam?

It should not be said that there are various groups in Islam. Islam is only one group. There is no grouping in Islam. However there are different school of thoughts in Islam. The reason for the presence of these schools is that the Holy Book Quran guides the Muslims about the basic principles and obligations (refer to Islam five pillars for more information) without going into the small details.Holy Quran and Prophet Muhammad PBUH Sunna (sayings and practices) have outlined the basic procedures without the all details and thus giving Muslims a variety of opinions to choose from what they feel best suited for them. These are the details where Muslim scholars have different schools about. So, Muslims follow the teaching of scholars relating these minor details. The two major schools of thoughts are Ahl-e-Sunnat(Sunnis) or Ahl-e-tashiyu(shiites). These two schools have branched into further schools, as no two people can think the same way. These details were so unimportant that for centuries after the death of Holy Prophet PBUH, Muslims had never worried about having different schools so far all of them do not deny the basic Islam faith. It is important to emphasize that Both Sunnis and Shiites are Muslims. They both believe in one and only one God and believe in his prophet and Messenger Muhammad. They believe in Quran and in the five pillars of Islam. They pray facing the same direction (Kaaba). They may pray together in the same mosque and led by a Sunni or Shiite at no difference.if you mean shia or sunni. near 80% of Muslims are sunni and near 20% shia.but each contains sects. However, it is to be empasized that no dramatic differences betweem Sunnis and Shiites as observed in the different sects of other religions. All Islam groups agree upon the basic Islam fundamentals and differ only on side minor issues. Refer to question below.

What are the two muslim groups called?

Answer 1It is because of some minor and side differences that have nothing to do with basic Islamic rules and teachings. Refer to question below: Sunni vs. Shiites and their distribution.Answer 2There are more than two Muslim groups. It just so happens that Sunnis and Shiites together make up >99% of Muslims. They have all separated from each other for a variety of different theological and political reasons. Please see the Related Question below: Why did the Islam branches separate?

Why don't the Shiites and Sunnis disagree with each other?

Sunnis and Shiites do disagree with each other on several theological issues. ______________________________________________________________ They disagree on minor side issues that not affecting basic Islam beliefs. They ; for example; disgreed on the way the successor of the prophet (after his death) should be chosen. Muslims elected Abou Bakr to be the first Caliph after prophet Muhammad (PBUH) death. However, some Muslims believed that the successor should be from the family of the prophet and hence should Ali Ibn Abou Taleb (the prophet cousin and husband of his daughter). However, after the election of AbouBakr, they joined the majority and even Ali Ibn Abou Taleb (God be pleased with him) supported the elected Caliph. The same scenario was repeated after election of Omar Ibn Alkhattab as the second Caliph and Othman Ibn Affan as the third Caliph. Ali Ibn Abou Taleb was then elected as the fourth Caliph. Sunnis and Shiites are just two Islamic schools that differ in minor issues. The outsiders are trying to feed up assumed differences and conflicts between Muslim groups to gain control on Muslim countries and on their resources. The two main groups are Sunnis and Shiites. Both groups agree upon basic Islam pillars, believe in same and only version of Quran, believe and follow the sunnah of same prophet (PBUH), pray to same direction (facing Kaba in Makkah or Mecca in Saudi Arabia, go to same places on pilgrimage (or Hajj), and adhere to same Islam morals and ritual worships. They only differ on some side issues that are not critical. Some other groups as Taliban and Al-Qaeda are in disagreement with both Sunnis and Shiites true Muslims.

Is divorce accepteble in shia Islam?

Divorce is allowed in Islam, including Shia Islam, but it is done in a different manner than Sunnis. Sunnis need 2 witnesses for a marriage to occur and no witness for divorce. Shias have it the other way around, no witnesses is needed for marriage but 2 just witnesses is need for a divorce to occur. More details about divorce can be found in the book "Islamic Laws" by Grand Ayatullah Sayed Ali Al-Hussaini Al-Sistani, check the link below:

Are Shiites actually Muslims?

Yes. They perform all five of the pillars of Islam and claim the same legitimacy to the tradition as the Sunnis claim. The one historical distinction is that they were the minority political rivals of the Sunnis, leading to their development of a unique tradition.Shia as minority comprise the most important part of Muslims. the shia like the Sunni believe in unity of God, the day of resurrection and prophecy as three basic principles in Islam religion. they , in spite of these principles, believe in justices and Imamate as other principles.

What form of Islam is more widely practiced?

Answer 1There is only one form of Islam. Even the two known schools of Islam, Shiites and Sunnis, are practicing one form of Islam. They differ in only some practices that are not so contradictory as concerns the basic Islam principles, Quran Guides, or Prophet Muhammad's sayings or practices.See for more information the question listed below.Answer 2Most Muslims are Sunnis and constitute between 75-90% of all Muslims. The second largest sect, Shia, makes up 10-20%. Other schools such as Ibadi (a third school that is much less populous, but dominant in Oman) are more or less a rounding error. As concerns the uniformity of Islam, this is incorrect. Many Shia and Sunnis claim that the other branch is committing Takfir or Blasphemy (especially as concerns the role of 'Ali in Shia Islam) which would make these schools sufficiently different as to be considered unique faiths even though the fundamentals are the same (in the same way that Orthodox Christian and Catholic Christian are two different faiths even though the fundamentals are the same), never mind the difference between Sunni and Shia vs. Ibadi.

Why all practice of sunnis are anti Quran and shias are per Quran as Sunnis are washing their foot in wuzu while shias doing masah as in quran?

No Muslim, who ever, can claim that Sunnis are anti Quraan and Shias are followers of Quraan or vice versa. Both Sunnis and Shias are Muslims and brothers in Islam. Both worship God the only one God. Both are followers of prophet Mohamed the Messenger of God. Both observing the five Islam Pillars. Both have the same basic Islam beliefs. It is very sinful for any Muslim to accuse another Muslim of being anti Quran. The only differences between Sunnis and and Shias are in the details of some practices and never having differences in the basic pillars of Islam. Now we come to the issue of washing feet for Wuzu (or Wudu). In Quran, said that: "O ye who believe! when ye prepare for prayer, wash your faces and arms to the elbows; wipe partly your heads and (wash) your feet to the ankles" verse 6- chapter 6. In Arabic , grammatically washing is not only for faces and arms but also for feet while wiping is only for heads and partly (not necessarily full head). However, if anyone- whether Sunnis or Shias - has another different view or explanation of the verse (or other prophet saying) than the above, then no other Muslim has the right to accuse him that he is against Quran or that he nonbeliever.
