Zia, which was incorporated into the New Mexico Flag and was used effectively in the design of the New Mexico State Capital. Many (if not most), tribes including the Hopi, Lakota (not associated with and only rarely visited by and Navajo also have sun symbols. It is also closely associated with all cultures who used baskets as a form of design and construction.
The swastika (20 sided polygon) is an ancient sun symbol and is often wrongly associated with Christianity as a point of origin (it predates Christianity by thousands of years). Until the 1930's it was the shoulder patch of the 45th US Army Infantry Division as a right facing swastika worn to honor the Native Americans of all Nations who had faithfully served in it but was replaced by the "Thunderbird" with the advent of national socialism.
It also serves as both a Chinese and Japanese language character and a Hindu symbol. Humans have spent centuries wondering about this strange and strangely predictable visitor to planet earth. Some worshipped it and a rare few began to study and understand it. Many simply accept it, remain oblivious to its importance, curse its rise, damn its illusive nature in the dark and bless it when it warms their bodies.
