From what I heard and from my past experience. Sometimes it does hurt the transmission. What I mean is it depends on the transmission wear and tear. For example; I had a 1990 Nissan Pathfinder SE, Transmission started slipping a little, so I figure it would help. Well to make the long story short. I change transmission filter and fluid and I got 1 more year out of it.
There is no drain plug. You have to drop the transmission pan and do a transmission oil/filter change. You can buy a kit which includes the gasket and the filter. Have fun. There are lots of techniques on you tube on this topic!
the transmission filter is on the inside of the transmission
Probably in the gas tank
The 1990 Nissan Maxima came equipped with the 3.0L V6 and the RE4F02A automatic transmission. This type of transmission requires a professional tear down and overhaul to remove and replace the transmission filter assembly. It is not a standard pan filter with relatively easy access. The internal Maxima filter for the RE4F02A transmission is ATP part #B157.
