I had a noise in the front end of my 2004 Mountaineer similar to what you described and it was front wheel bearings on the passenger side. $291.
Possible wheel bearing, see if noise changes on left & right turns.
Wheel bearings will cause a rumbling noise consistent with the revolution of the tires. Your highlander is doing a computerized check of systems. If your noise is like mine, when you start the engine and pull away you hear this noise and then it goes away.
I'm having the same problem. 98 Mountaineer. I think it's wheel bearing or possibly c/v joint. it sounds like a shredding almost, or grinding noise + squeak in the driver side front wheel hub.
front of timing pulley making rumbling noise took belt off and still making the same noise.is the timing chain are is it a bearing on pulley.
Yep! I thought it was just mine. Everytime I drive over any bump or ride on any surface that isn't smooth, there is a rattling that sounds like it's coming from the front, under the vehicle. It sounds like something is loose and shaking.
Sounds Like The Front Bearing/s Is/Are Bad
Try applying a little bit of grease to the lower A-arm bushings on the front end. If this is not the problem you should take it to a mechanic.
I have a 2000 with the same problem. It sounds like the 4-Hi is engaged, but its not. In searching for answers I found two possible, though I haven't tried them yet. 1. Change the fluid in the transfer case 2. Bad hub/bearing assembly.
if the noise comes from the front end while you rev the engine, and not alot of sound comes from the tailpipe, check the exhaust from the front back for cracks or breaks. it sounds like an exhaust leak to me.
Sounds like its from one side? Ur shocks
Are you sure the noise isn't in the front. Sounds like a right front wheel bearing, which is a common problem on these vans.
check rack and pinion. sounds like it needs to be replaced.
