Turn the filter buy hand, then one quarter turn with the oil filter wrench. That's plenty. Make sure you put some new oil on the rubber gasket with your finger before screwing it on.
New oil and a filter. Metric Socket and ratchet, and possibly a filter wrench if the filter was installed by an amateur who put it on too tight.
Neither your oil filter, or the fill cap need to be loose, the filter should be screwed on as tight as you can get it by hand only, and the fill cap should fit snugly so it does not come off. If the oil filter is loose or too tight you can blow out the seal which will cause you lose all your oil.
Hand tight is usually all that is required. I recommend turning it 3/4 turn after making contact with the mounting surface. That way it is tight enough but not too tight.
Wrong size filter for the engine, filter too tight or too loose, filter has a hole in it, or gasket not oiled before installation thus causing it to leak. The old gasket could have been left on the engine thus causing a leak with 2 gaskets installed.
anti clockwise. it is just like unscrewing an oil plug.
Its possible you didn't properly install the oil filter. ie its miss-threaded or not tightened properly or too tight. You may have also left the old gasket from the old filter on. Also if you did not apply a thin coat of oil to then new filter gasket it may leak.
Oil filter installed incorrectly as in too tight, too loose, the gasket was not oiled prior to installation, or the old filter gasket was left on. It can also be a valve cover gasket leaking and running down by the filter. Replace the oil filter and oil the gasket and tighten 3/4 turn after it makes contact with the mounting surface. If the leak persists if is not the filter.
If the filter is on too tight and you cant get a good grip, stab it with a screwdriver and twist it off. Its messy but it really works.
Just unscrew the filter. If you cannot remove it with your hands, it was put on too tight, which is common, as most people tighten them too much. You will need to use a good filter wrench. The type wrench you will need depends on how much room you have. Oil the gasket & Put the new filter back on and only tighten it 3/4 turn after the filter makes contact with the mounting surface. By doing this you will not need a filter wrench when removing the filter next time. 3/4 turn is plenty tight and any more is too much.Just unscrew the filter. You need a flat screwdriver to remove the belly pan. A 12mm hex socket/wrench to remove the oil plug. and an oil filter wrench to remove the oil filter if it is too tight.
In my car, a C 280 1995, it is between the engine and the firewall. If it is too tight you will need a special tool to unscrew the metallic cup and then you reach the filter.
V6: Lift plastic cover off passenger side of engine. You will see a large alloy casting about the size of an oil filter at the top of the engine, with flats on it for a socket. Undo the top of the cartridge, swap the element and seal and refit. Don't go too tight or too loose. Too tight and you will crack the alloy. Too loose and it will leak. Refit cover when confirmed it isn't leaking and you're done. V8 has spin-on filter like most other cars.
