On a 1986 Oldsmobile Ciera why will the power windows not go up if the blue and brown stripe is reversed it will go up not down?

Power window motors are DC motors. If you apply 12v to one of the motor leads, the motor will operate in 1 direction. The power window switch reverses the 12v connections for you and operates the motor in the OPPOSITE direction. IF you REVERSE the wires AT the connector for the motor, UP (at the switch) will then be DOWN, and DOWN will then be UP. This assumes the SWITCH is OK. Handy to know if the rain is falling hard outside. The problem would then be INSIDE the power window motor; either the "UP" winding OR the "DOWN" winding has developed an OPEN circuit. EACH of the wires to the power window motor has 12v applied to it depending on the switch position. The ground is supplied by tight bolts &/or rivets holding the motor in the door.
