There are 2 wiper motors on a Windstar: 1 for the front wipers and 1 for the rear.
First thing to solve this issue is to look carefully at each part of the wiper including the motor of the wiper and try to understand what is the problem. Sometimes cleaning and reinstalling each part can make the wiper work excellent.
You need to fold down the windshield. So undo the torque head screws on each side & fold forward carefully. The wiper motor sits right under the VIN plate on the windshield.
its under the plastic cow directly under the windshield wiper arms. you need to open the hood and take off about five or six metal clips and 2 plastic screws on each far side of the cover up near the windshield.
A bad motor can cause the driver side wiper to be slower than the passenger side. If one side is slower than the other, the blades can get stuck on each other.
the wiper motor is mounted on the outside of the firewall, on the top-passenger side. you will need to pinch off each side of the electrical connector to release the latch and pull on the connector to remove it. The motor is attached with four 10mm bolts. Remove the bolts to free the motor from the firewall. the motor mechanism is attached to the wiper pivot rod and needs to be detached with a pair of needle nose pliers. you will need to pivot the wiper slightly to get better access to the fastening nipple. gently slide the pliers between the motor arm and the pivot rod while applying a slight prying force. It will pop out of place. To reinstall, use a channel lock type of plier and apply only as much force as necessary to the nipple/pivot rod to replace the knuckle in the boot.
Each sliding door has their own motor. Disconnect the wiring to the little motor inside the door you want disabled.
The grill below the windshield, right behind the hood, covers the wiper assembly. You'll have to figure out if the linkage broke or just came loose. Pull the grill and turn on the wipers. You should be able to see what ISN'T working. From your description, it's not the wiper motor, it's probably the shaft that drives the wiper arm. You will probably need to go to a dealer if you want a NEW one, but something like that seldom goes bad so you might want to consider a wrecking yard. It should be the same wiper assembly for suburbans and pickups. there are two types of windshield wipers that i have seen. 1. one motor and two motors. if one motor is controling both blade assemblies look for a rod that connects the two assemblies and one side of the rod may be disconnected. 2. Two motor- each motor controls each assembly for the windshield wiper. on this type look for 2 things a. look and listen for the motor on the working wiper and go immediately to the non working wiper and listen for the same noise if you hear the same noise then at the base of the wiper assembly (the rounded bottom of the wiper arm assembly) there is a gear that the motor fits into. this is probably stripper. Goto any auto parts store, most will show you how to take off the wiper assembly arm and turn on the wiper again. if you see the gear moving then tell the auto parts person you need the arm assembly that you or that person is now holding if the gear is not moving then you need the wiper motor and you should keep the assembly that you are holding. good luck
First: Take the hood off by taking out the 2 hinge bolts on each side. Next: Take the wiper arms off by prying up on them. Next: Take the 4 screws out of the front water channel of the air intake cowling that is under the wiper arm connectors. Then remove the larger bolt on each side next to the hood hinges. Take off the cowling and the screening under it. The connection nut on the wiper motor shaft is right in the open. Take it off, unbolt the wiper motor, install the new one and replace everything in the same order as taking it off.
Yes, It is possible something came loose or broke off.__________________________________________Windshield Wiper Blade and ArmFront1. Raise the cover over the wiper arm retaining nuts.2. Remove the retaining nuts on the wiper arm pivots.3. Match mark the wiper arms to the pivot for reinstallation.4. Lift each wiper arm and free it from the pivot shafts.Ø The wiper arms will most likely be stuck, a useful tool for removal of the wiper arms is a battery terminal puller. The battery terminal puller exerts force on the pivot and raises the arm, otherwise prying and other techniques could do damage to the wiper arms, trim, windshield, or painted surfaces of the vehicle. To install:5. Place the wiper arm onto the pivot aligning the match marks.6. Tighten the wiper arm retaining nuts.Fasten the retaining nut covers.__________________________________________________________________________Windshield Wiper MotorRemoval & InstallationFront1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Turn the ignition switch ON until the wiper blades are straight up, then turn the ignition switch OFF.2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.3. Remove the right-hand and left-hand windshield wiper arm and blade assemblies.4. Remove the cowl top vent panels.5. Detach the electrical hardness connector at the windshield wiper motor assembly.6. Remove 3 wiper motor (module assembly) retaining bolts and remove the module assembly from the vehicle.7. Remove the wiper linkage retaining bolt and remove the linkage from the wiper motor.8. Remove 3 retaining nuts and remove the windshield wiper motor. To install;9. Place the windshield wiper motor in position and install 3 retaining nuts. Tighten to 10-12 ft. lbs. (12-17 Nm).10. Connect the wiper linkage to the windshield wiper motor and install the retaining bolt. Tighten the bolts to 14 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).11. Place the wiper motor (module assembly) in position and install 3 retaining bolts. Tighten the bolts to 6 ft. lbs. (9Nm).12. Install the electrical hardness connector to the windshield wiper motor.13. Connect the negative battery cable.14. Allow the windshield wiper motor to cycle several times while checking for proper wiper motor operation.15. Turn the windshield wiper motor to the OFF position to park the wiper motor in the park position.16. Install the cowl top vent panels.17. Install the wiper arm and blade assemblies. Install the retaining nuts and tighten to 22-29 ft. lbs. (30-40 Nm).18. Connect the negative battery cable.Check the windshield wiper motor for proper operation and the wiper arms for adjustme
First remove the windshield wipers, pry up the small tab near the vent cowl on each wiper. Then remove the screws that hold the vent cowl, pull the vent cowl off and you will see the wiper motor on the driver side
In addition to Ford, there are now third party manufacturers of the blend door motor/actuators - each has their own part number.Check your local parts store and ask for it by name instead of the number.See "Related Questions" below for more
You get to drop you windshield...the wiper motor is under it. Unbolt the rollbars at the top of the windshield, then unbolt both brackets on each side of the dash. Carefully fold the windshield down on the hood. Then you'll see your wiper motor. I just did this yesterday on my 95 YJ. Try putting some PB Blaster/WD40 on all the bolts and letting it soak in. I had to make a trip to Fastenal for a few replacements.
